Position description

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), Scripps Website at the University of California San Diego invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. With this recruitment we are specifically searching for candidates who integrate marine observations and geology or geochemistry methodologies to address research questions in paleoceanography, paleoclimate, or geological oceanography. We have a particular interest in attracting candidates with expertise in the geochemical analysis of marine, terrestrial or ice core archives, to enhance existing institutional programs in oceanography and climate sciences.

In their applications, candidates are encouraged to discuss how their work informs the physical and/or biogeochemical processes relevant for the modern and future ocean/climate system. Candidates are also encouraged to demonstrate how their research will build on world class laboratory facilities, marine and sea-going strengths, and modeling expertise at Scripps, while advancing an equity-minded and collaborative research environment.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in oceanography, marine geology, geochemistry, climate science or a related field at the time of application.
  • Preferred candidates will have a competitive record of publication and service, and evidence of ability or strong potential to secure extramural funding and to conduct an active research program while contributing to impactful undergraduate and graduate teaching.
