SCOPE
The scope of this position involves providing clinical expertise in patient care management and serving as an appropriate teaching environment for fellows and students in the specialty of Nephrology and Onco-Nephrology. The individual will also be responsible for the design and implementation of clinical research studies.
Key Functions
Clinical - 80%
- Provides clinical expertise in patient care management, requiring outstanding analytical skills in order to make judgments regarding the patient's medical problems and advise the patient on methods to improve their care.
- Must be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
- Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
- Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
- Will require dictating in a clear and concise manner and visual review of documents.
- Practice internal medicine and medical oncology in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
- Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
- Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Administration - 5%
- Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to each meeting site.
- Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary.
- Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions on an as needed basis.
Research - 10%
- Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
- Develop and execute clinical research and scholarly activities aligned with goals of the Department.
- Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
- May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation.
Education/Teaching - 5%
- Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in Nephrology, Onco-Nephrology for medical fellows and students who rotate through Section of Nephrology.
- Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences, which requires verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus.
- Serve as a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows and students.
- Provide education for department colleagues verbally or in writing by disseminating information obtained or learned from outside conferences and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
- Required: The Assistant Professor, CFA must have completed the MD degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent.
- Has completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent.
- Completed clinical fellowship in Nephrology and has been accepted by the American Board of Internal Medicine - with a subspecialty in Nephrology.
- As a clinician, he/she must be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas.
