Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment, Head and Neck Surgery

Faculty position in the Section of Oral Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, Department of Head and Neck Surgery at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Reporting to the Section Chief, the successful candidate will develop a specialty practice in cancer-related oral rehabilitation, collaborate with the head and neck multidisciplinary team, and engage in clinical research and teaching.

About the Role

This is a clinical faculty track assistant professor position focused on oral rehabilitation of patients with cancer and treating oral morbidities of cancer care. Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in oral/maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics/maxillofacial prosthodontics, or oral medicine, and must have completed a fellowship in a recognized dental specialty/sub-specialty. Texas licensure eligibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide exemplary oral oncology care, adhering to standards set by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and relevant professional academies.
• Develop and maintain a clinical practice for cancer-related oral rehabilitation, collaborating with the multidisciplinary head and neck team.
• Provide physician staffing for outpatient and inpatient services, ensuring timely and accurate patient documentation, coding, and correspondence.
• Review, evaluate, and interpret medical records and patient data based on training and experience.
• Complete patient documentation, ICD-10 and CPT coding within institutional time frames.
• Communicate effectively with referring physicians and other healthcare providers regarding patient care.
• Stay current with advances in patient management through continuing education.
• Request appropriate medical consultations and provide direction to non-physician personnel (e.g., technicians, coordinators, nurses).
• Contribute to education by teaching residents, fellows, and trainees, including timely evaluations and participation in continuing education programs.
• Develop and deliver lectures using visual aids and participate in departmental/divisional teaching conferences.
• Engage in clinical translational research and scholarly activities, including publishing and presenting findings.
• Develop research programs, seek funding, and instruct research support personnel as needed.
• Serve on institutional and hospital committees, providing feedback and fulfilling administrative duties as assigned.
• Represent the department at local, regional, state, and national meetings, disseminating information to colleagues.
• Adhere to all policies and standards for the Assistant Professor appointment as outlined in the Handbook of Operating Procedures and contractual agreements.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited medical school with an M.D. degree or equivalent.
• Completed residency training in oral/maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics/maxillofacial prosthodontics, or oral medicine.
• Board certified or board eligible in the relevant specialty.
• Completed fellowship in a recognized dental specialty/sub-specialty.
• Eligible for licensure in the State of Texas.
• Two years of experience as an Instructor or five years post-degree experience as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee.
• Valid and active Texas Medical license to practice medicine.
