About the role

This position serves as a Clinical Faculty Appointment (CFA) in the Department of Head & Neck Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. It involves providing patient care, teaching, and conducting research.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care:
    • Practices ophthalmology in an exemplary manner, balancing it with other academic activities.
    • Provides physician staffing for the inpatient service at a level commensurate with other ophthalmologists.
    • Reviews, evaluates, and interprets medical records and patient data.
    • Fills out ICD-10 and CPT coding on clinic charge cards within 24 hours.
    • Completes patient documentation for medical records according to institutional policy.
    • Communicates with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals about patient care and treatment.
    • Attends continuing education conferences to stay updated on current approaches in patient management.
    • Requests appropriate medical consultations for patients.
  • Education/Teaching:
    • Contributes to a balanced and integrated educational program for fellows, residents, and other trainees.
    • Completes evaluation forms for rotating residents in a timely manner.
    • Develops and implements specific continuing education programs.
    • Attends and participates in Division/Department teaching and continuing conferences.
  • Research:
    • Engages in clinical translational research and scholarly activities.
    • Synthesizes a myriad of information to develop research programs.
    • Seeks appropriate funding mechanisms to support research.
    • Publishes or presents results in a timely manner.
  • Administration:
    • Serves on institutional and hospital committees as requested.
    • Assumes administrative duties as assigned by the Department Chairman or his/her designee.

Qualifications

  • M.D. degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Ophthalmology.
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience in ophthalmology.
  • Experience in managing patients with head and neck cancer.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
