About the role

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is creating an inclusive environment that values diversity and community. This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that combines 60% teaching (in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 40% research (at the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) within the Department of Food and Resource Economics, part of the University of Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in agricultural and applied economics across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
  • Develop a nationally recognized research program focusing on economic issues pertinent to the food and agricultural industry, such as international trade, agricultural policy, or related topics.
  • Seek and secure external funding to support research initiatives.
  • Engage in Extension activities related to the candidate's program area.
  • Support and participate in the University of Florida's mission areas: Research, Teaching, and Extension.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in agricultural and/or applied economics, economics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and securing extramural funding.
  • A commitment to the mission of the Land-Grant system and UF core values.
  • Some proficiency with modern data-science methods such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in agricultural and/or applied economics, economics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching and research.
  • Commitment to UF core values and the Land-Grant system.
  • Interest or proficiency in modern data-science methods.

Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal relationships and networking abilities.
  • Ability to secure extramural funding.
  • Proficiency in modern data-science methods.
