About the role

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is creating an inclusive environment that values diversity and community. This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that combines 60% teaching and 40% research responsibilities within the Department of Food and Resource Economics, IFAS, University of Florida. The position is expected to start on August 16, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in agricultural and applied economics spanning the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
  • Develop a nationally recognized research program focusing on economic issues relevant to the food and agricultural industry, such as international trade, agricultural policy, or related topics.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising and mentoring students, participating in curriculum development, seeking external funding, supervising research, publishing teaching-related scholarship, and engaging in professional development.
  • Support and participate in the University of Florida's CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education initiatives.
  • Contribute to the mission of the Land-Grant system, supporting and engaging in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching, and Extension.

Requirements

  • A doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in agricultural and/or applied economics, economics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
  • A commitment to the University of Florida's core values.
  • Some proficiency with or interest in modern data-science methods such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in agricultural and/or applied economics, economics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching and research relevant to agricultural and applied economics.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Land-Grant system.
  • Ability to engage in scholarly activities related to instruction.
