Assistant Professor, Applied Mathematics
Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in applied mathematics, anticipated to begin August 2027.
About the role
The Department of Mathematics at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, seeks a research-active faculty member specializing in any area of applied mathematics. Post-doctoral experience is expected, though not required. The normal teaching load is three semester courses per academic year.
The department comprises 25 tenure-track mathematics faculty and 42 doctoral students, with research strengths in algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, and geometry/topology.
UB is a premier public research university with approximately 20,000 undergraduates, 10,000 graduate students, and 1,600 full-time faculty. The campus is located in suburban Amherst, offering a low cost of living, outstanding public schools, and proximity to downtown Buffalo, Lake Erie, and Niagara Falls.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in applied mathematics
- Teach three semester courses per academic year
- Mentor doctoral students
Requirements
- Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field
- Strong research program in applied mathematics
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- At least four reference letters, including one addressing teaching effectiveness
