Assistant Printing Press Operator, Bureau of Customer Support
Position in the Bureau of Customer Support/Information Support Services, Office of External Affairs, supporting the Graphics and Reproduction Unit. This unit provides cost-effective, quality print materials for DOHMH, including printed, photocopied, and bound documents such as manuals, brochures, business cards, certificates, envelopes, forms, flyers, newsletters, plastic signage, slides, and stationery. The role also involves producing layouts, negatives, and digital output, and managing highly sensitive and confidential records in compliance with legal standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation of large-scale complex cylinder-type printing presses, including web presses, under direct supervision.
- Set up presses for printing and start-up operations.
- Operate multi-brand copiers (e.g., Xerox, Konica, Canon) and wide-format machines.
- Assist with and operate shrink wrap and mailing inserting machines.
- Monitor running presses, making necessary adjustments to meet job specifications.
- Maintain and assist in making routine repairs to printing equipment.
- Select and load paper, and assist in mixing ink to produce desired colors or shades.
- Operate cutters, set up machinery, and adjust equipment to ensure uniform impressions.
- Assist with quality assurance control to verify materials meet expected standards.
- Pack and label completed orders, and submit transportation requests for delivery.
- Lift and handle packages and paper boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- Three years of satisfactory full-time experience operating a cylinder-type printing press using the offset-press printing process; or equivalent education and/or experience.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Adobe software such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Analytical skills with the ability to run and maintain productivity reports.
- Proficiency in using a pallet jack and forklift (a plus).
