Assistant or Associate Professor (Commensurate with experience)
University of Utah Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is launching a multi-year recruiting initiative for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek candidates whose research programs complement and expand our current strengths in basic and translational vision science. Researchers addressing exciting questions and approaches from any area of vision science are encouraged to apply. About the Role
The successful candidate will work in the research side of the department, launching an independent research program, mentoring and educating the next generation of vision scientists, and investing in and building our research community.
Responsibilities
- Build an independent extramurally funded research program.
- Teach courses through our PhD programs.
- Mentor trainees.
Requirements
- PhD and/or MD degree.
- Demonstrated excellence in research with strong potential for securing independent extramural funding and building a sustainable research program.
- Commitment to promoting mentorship and community in academic and research settings.
Application Materials
- Cover Letter: Briefly describe your research accomplishments, future interests, and potential fit to the department.
- CV: Summarize key features of your training and any related professional experience, including publications, teaching, mentoring, funding, outreach, presentations, and awards.
- Statement of Research Accomplishments, Future Plans, and Funding Goals (maximum 3 pages): Describe your most significant prior contributions to science and your plans for an independent research program, including short-term and long-term goals and detailed plans for accomplishing them, with suitable external funding mechanisms.
- Two to three representative scholarly papers.
- Statement on mentorship and community building (~500 words): Describe any mentorship and community-building efforts you have engaged in, as well as plans for fostering success and overcoming barriers faced by different people in a research environment.
- Names and contact information for letters of recommendation from at least 3 people at or above your rank (outside the University of Utah).
