Assistant of Accreditation and Compliance
About the Role
The individual in this position assists with accreditation and compliance procedures for CALEA standards, as well as the development and management of policies and procedures used throughout the Sheriff’s Office.
The most important and essential job duty is maintaining a positive attitude, including getting along with co-workers, being respectful to community members, and monitoring the accreditation process agency-wide.
Responsibilities
- 60% - Assist with validating annual CALEA proofs and managing the document management system
- 25% - Serve as the Assistant to the Accreditation Manager
- 10% - Assist with the creation, validation, and oversight of agency-owned forms and forms accountability
- 5% - Assist with the oversight of policy implementation
- Other duties as assigned by the Sheriff and/or his designee
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- One-year related experience and/or training (Accreditation process and/or Law Enforcement) – preferred
- Current and valid Louisiana Driver’s License
Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend reports and manuals
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information, and respond to questions from employees, command staff, and the public – in person and over the telephone
- Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics
- Ability to deal with situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness, and judgment
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is required to regularly stand, walk, and sit.
Work Environment
The employee will work with others within their department and throughout the Sheriff’s Office and will be provided with adequate office space to complete necessary duties.
Schedule
- Currently assigned office hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm and Friday, 7:00 am – 11:00 am
- Employees are required to work flexible hours when needed
- In some circumstances, employees may be subject to call-out 24 hours a day
Employment Terms
Employment with SMPSO is "at will," meaning either the employee or the Sheriff may terminate employment at any time for any reason, with or without cause. All employees serve a one-year probationary period, with a job performance evaluation conducted after six months.
