About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the nurse manager in administrative duties, particularly during off shifts. This role provides leadership by collaborating with the healthcare team to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the clinical setting. The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in quality improvement activities, offers input on care standards, and delivers patient care as needed while maintaining clinical competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise care by maintaining high visibility to patients, families, and staff in clinical areas.
  • Share accountability with the manager for achieving unit, department, and organizational goals, including patient experience, team member engagement, and continuous process improvement.
  • Manage staff through recruitment, retention, coaching, training, evaluation, development, and delegation of work schedules and workflow.
  • Participate in basic human resource functions under the manager’s supervision.
  • Provide managerial support as required.
  • Develop, implement, and participate in Quality Improvement Process activities.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a resource for patient care and unit activities.
  • Assist staff in developing problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Maintain records related to staff competency, quality audits, and other relevant documentation.
  • Serve as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.
  • Actively participate in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the unit’s shared governance model.
  • Assume responsibility for personal professional growth.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • At least two years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, traveling, climbing (ladder, steps), and driving.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull over 100 lbs.
  • Exposure to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $100,630.40 - $133,120.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by qualifications, previous work experience, and education.
