Main Function
The Assistant Nurse Manager provides administrative duties and direct patient care as needed based on patient acuity and staffing needs. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing daily unit operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and maintaining a well-coordinated team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Nurse Manager in assessing patient care needs, staffing requirements, workflow efficiency, and resource utilization within the unit.
- Identify and address patient care, safety, and staff performance concerns while supporting quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to develop unit goals, staffing schedules, resource plans, and patient care standards.
- Support daily unit operations by coordinating staff activities, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring high-quality patient care delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, staff performance, and operational effectiveness, recommending improvements when appropriate.
- Participate in employee performance management, including staff coaching, problem-solving, and assisting with performance evaluations.
- Maintain and enhance clinical and administrative competencies through ongoing professional development and education.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by mentoring staff, promoting effective communication, and serving as a leadership resource.
- Uphold ethical standards by protecting patient confidentiality, supporting ethical decision-making, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, resource management, committee participation, and quality improvement efforts to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Education
Required: Current NYS nursing licensure. Preferred: BSN strongly recommended.
Experience
Required: Minimum 5 years' experience in an acute hospital setting.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 90 days for telemetry and critical care areas.
Physical Demands
Appreciable physical effort required. Some lifting, reaching and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.
Infection Control
Performs all aspects of universal precautions when engaging in patient care.
