Assistant Nurse Manager-Day Surgery/PACU
About the Role
This position assists the Department Manager and Department Director in directing, monitoring, and controlling the operation and productivity of the unit by collaborating with hospital personnel, medical staff, and the public. The Assistant Nurse Manager provides input on budgeting, NIAHO/ISO standards compliance, and policy development, participates in performance improvement, staff scheduling, and time card approval, and assumes the duties of the Department Director during absences. The role includes demonstrating clinical expertise and providing direct and indirect patient care, as well as leadership in clinical, financial, and personnel management.
Responsibilities
- Oversees unit operations on assigned shifts in the absence of the Director to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.
- Ensures appropriate patient assignments relative to caseload and staff.
- Completes daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality care.
- Performs duties to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention.
- Provides clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians.
- Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements.
- Serves as a role model and encourages staff participation in their own development.
- Assists with selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention of employees.
- Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities.
- Assists in the development of operational and capital budgets and ensures optimal productivity for the department.
- Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, as well as professional standards.
- Provides excellent service to all customers by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.
- Helps with planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing process.
- Promotes an environment supporting patient/family-centered care reflective of the patient population.
- Collaborates as part of an integrated team by sharing information, best practices, and results openly through a Shared Governance model.
- Contributes to strategic program growth, development, and organizational change.
- Ensures regulatory standards are achieved.
Working Conditions
- Inside environment, protected from weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
- Subject to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment.
- May be exposed to combative patients.

Physical Demands
- Must be able to perceive sounds, express or exchange ideas by spoken word, and perceive characteristics of objects through sight.
- Must be able to extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or work with hands.
- Must be able to pick, pinch, or work with fingers.
- Must be able to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Qualifications
- Previous PACU or Critical Care experience.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, excellent communication, and organization skills.
- Skills in human relations, human and material resource management.
- Evidence of ability to provide exceptional clinical and administrative nursing leadership.
- Knowledge of current technology and equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies.
- Proficiency in PC and computer applications.
Education Requirements
- BSN desired; ADN with experience will be considered.
License Requirements
- Current RN license in the State of Oregon.
- BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications.
Pay
Salary Range: $119,984 - $192,318 per year.
Schedule
Day shift (Recovery Room).
