Full-time (40 hrs/week) primarily night shift with flexibility to cover day shifts for meetings or coverage. Rotating on-call; no weekend shifts required.

About the role

Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, you will have 24-hour accountability for patient care outcomes, service excellence, human-resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement, compliance, and communication. The Assistant Nurse Manager acts as a role model, mentor, and coach to staff, fostering a positive environment that supports professional growth and retention.

About the unit

Welcome to the Inpatient Behavioral Health Services Units 10fg and 10hi at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital. We specialize in compassionate, comprehensive care for adults aged 18 and up using an acute-crisis-stabilization model. Our multidisciplinary team includes RNs, LPNs, Acute Care Technicians (ACTs), therapists, and social workers, ensuring personalized, holistic care.

  • 10-bed geriatric space focused on dementia and cognitive impairment
  • 28 additional beds for adults experiencing depression and other mental illnesses
  • Average patient stay: 5–7 days
  • 12-hour shifts; every third weekend required, with a weekend option available
  • Typical patient-to-staff ratio: 1:5
  • 5–6-week orientation (adjustable based on learning needs) including CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) de-escalation training

While psychiatric/behavioral-health experience is preferred, we welcome new graduates eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of quality patient care to achieve desired outcomes; participate in developing and revising unit policies and procedures
  • Serve as a clinical and administrative resource to staff; collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to plan, organize, and evaluate care
  • Assist with overall nursing operations, including annual planning, coordinating patient care during assigned shifts, and managing the unit in the Nurse Manager’s absence
  • Participate in staffing efforts: interviewing, hiring, orienting, and retaining employees; apply progressive discipline when needed
  • Create and maintain a supportive work environment that promotes engagement and retention
  • Support staff development by identifying educational opportunities, collaborating with nurse educators, mentoring employees, and providing ongoing performance feedback

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position
  • Registered Nurse license (required)
  • Membership in related professional organization (preferred)
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of acute-care nursing experience (required)
  • 1–2 years’ experience in progressive nursing leadership (preferred)
  • Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Nursing experience (strongly preferred)
