Assistant Nurse Manager - Behavioral Health (Acute Inpatient Unit)

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse who serves as a clinical leader, overseeing daily unit operations, ensuring quality patient care delivery, and fostering staff excellence. This role functions in collaboration with, or in the absence of, the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

• Patient‑Centered Care & Experience: Lead nursing practice grounded in relationship‑centered care principles, oversee purposeful hourly rounding, conduct daily patient rounds, address concerns, facilitate service recovery, champion patient advocacy, communicate experience metrics, and collaborate interdisciplinary for optimal outcomes.
• Quality & Safety Leadership: Design and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care environment; lead quality improvement initiatives; participate in root‑cause analysis processes; implement corrective actions; foster a just culture encouraging error reporting and adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
• Operational Management: Provide administrative and clinical oversight for 24/7 patient care delivery, including staffing, throughput, and resource allocation; manage unit budgets, equipment, and supplies; ensure compliance with all regulatory mandates (e.g., DOH, Joint Commission).
• Staff Development & Engagement: Recruit, retain, evaluate, mentor, and coach nursing staff; facilitate effective communication, shared decision‑making, and staff participation in unit initiatives; interpret and implement collective bargaining agreements.
• Professional Practice: Promote clinical excellence, ethical decision‑making, and evidence‑based practice; serve as a professional role model and preceptor; foster continuous learning and scholarship among staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s in Nursing or health‑related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience; charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
• Acute‑care behavioral health experience required.
• Strong working knowledge of New York State regulatory standards (OMH/OASAS).
• Proven experience managing unionized staff and administering collective bargaining agreements/contracts.

Pay

Salary Range: $132,000 – $156,000 (commensurate with experience). The listed range reflects a good‑faith determination of potential base compensation and may be modified based on factors such as location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.

Schedule

Shift: 11 am – 9 pm, 4 days a week (Monday‑Friday) with one weekend rotation per month.
