Assistant Nurse Manager - Adult Psych Unit
About the role
Join Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital, a Magnet Hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and provide stellar patient care in the 3B Adult Psych Unit—one of two nursing units in the Acute Adult Behavioral Health Center. This unit delivers around-the-clock care for adult and older adult patients with behavioral, emotional, and/or psychiatric disorders requiring close supervision, ongoing assessment, and intensive treatment.
As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you will provide clinical supervision and coordinate unit and area clinical operations in collaboration with other departmental disciplines. You will ensure effective and efficient patient care, assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, caregivers, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit staff and across departments to support patient care.
- Ensure continuity of care between shifts; coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and daily operations.
- Review major operational and patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
- Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nursing and patient care staff.
- Counsel staff on performance, initiate corrective actions, and monitor attendance.
- Escalate significant clinical or performance concerns to the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, and performance appraisals.
- Monitor adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Nursing Institute, departmental, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Supervise and participate in daily patient care delivery.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
- Support quality improvement, outcomes research, and committee participation.
- Assist with orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
- If in a Critical Care area, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) certification must be presented upon hire or within the first year of employment.
- Two years of recent RN experience.
- Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Schedule
Evening/night rotation: 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
Pay
Pay range for new hires: $39.50 – $59.60 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
