This position is based at an Ardent Mills production facility and requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential functions of the role.

About the role

As an Assistant Miller, you will ensure Ardent Mills products meet customer requirements at the end of the milling process. You will complete sanitation duties in the facility and IPM tasks, run the cleaning house side of the mill, support the shift miller, and ensure all wheat and flour meet required specifications while following Food Safety Policies and GMPs. You will utilize milling knowledge to set up machinery for optimal results.

You must be willing to get cross-trained in at least one other position for development and relief duties, work off-shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-ins as needed, and maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Support specific phases of milling and wheat cleaning operations as assigned, including sanitation duties.
  • Develop mechanical ability to assist in preventative checks and mill repairs.
  • Accurately follow the schedule and specifications for wheat blending and provide feedback.
  • Learn and proficiently perform testing and monitoring of product through milling and cleaning processes.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in accordance with policies to ensure food safety.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and execute processes in 5S and Pristine AMPS standards using tools like Centerline and 5S.
  • Understand loss through 5-why analysis to determine root cause and corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain documentation of activities and inventories through computer or paper systems.
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, and customers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in an industrial environment (milling, agricultural, food production, or equivalent).
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new programs.
  • Willingness to work alongside your team, including long days, rotating or varying shifts (days, evenings, nights), overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during repairs or maintenance.
  • Willingness for training and development in milling practices and other department operations.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • Must pass a drug test and pre-employment background check (where not prohibited by law).
  • Must be clean-shaven to perform tasks requiring respiratory protection (e.g., respirators or N-95 dust masks).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in an industrial environment (milling, agricultural, food production, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated mechanical understanding and intermediate troubleshooting ability.
  • Understanding of safety behaviors in a production environment.
  • Mill production experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, protective footwear, hard hat, hearing protection, gloves, and face respirator when required.
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a machine-paced, 24/7 continuous process environment with conditions including:
    • Hot/cold temperatures and inclement weather.
    • Indoor/outdoor and dusty environments (including wheat/gluten allergens).
    • Noisy environment with frequent moving, vibration, or motion of equipment.
    • Elevated places and confined spaces.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, rotate, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, balance, and reach or lift at varying heights.
  • Frequently climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Occasionally lift, shovel, carry, push, or pull equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret instructions, and communicate effectively in English.

Pay

The starting range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00 per hour, with additional earning potential based on experience. Eligible team members may participate in an incentive bonus plan with a target of 5% of annual pay, based on company performance and individual results.

The company provides a shift differential for eligible employees working outside standard business hours, included in overtime calculations.
