About the Role
The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach supports the head coach in organizing, administering, and managing all aspects of the Aurora University NCAA Division III men’s basketball program. This role represents AU positively within the community and interacts effectively with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners. The position upholds AU’s mission and handles confidential information with discretion.
Responsibilities
- Supports the head coach by carrying out assigned responsibilities and adhering to NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
- Reports any alleged violations of NCAA, conference, or institutional rules.
- Coaches assigned positions or segments as directed by the head coach, staying informed of contemporary coaching trends, tactics, and strategies.
- Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating practices.
- Instructs student-athletes on academic achievement expectations and monitors their academic progress.
- Promotes safety, sportsmanlike conduct, and professionalism among student-athletes, officials, opponents, and spectators.
- Drives university or rental vehicles for away contests as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including voluntary participation in university committees and events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with student-athletes, parents, coaches, media, alumni, administrators, and the broader community.
- Ability to set and achieve goals, meet deadlines, and demonstrate strategic thinking and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of social media outlets.
- Physical ability to handle the demands of basketball practice and attend on/off-campus games.
- Valid driver’s license with a driving record meeting institutional requirements; willingness to travel between campus locations or for off-site meetings.

Pay
The pay range for this position is the budgeted amount the university reasonably expects to pay. The final pay rate will not be below the lowest pay rate listed.
