Part - Time Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Location: Big Rapids, MI (Main Campus)

Temporary, part-time position (September 1 – March 31). Employees are limited to working no more than 28 hours per week.

Advertised salary: $12,000 – $25,000, commensurate with education, experience, and other requirements.

About the Role

Assist the Head Men’s Basketball Coach in all facets of the basketball program, including coordinating and directing specific areas of the program.

Responsibilities

• Office administrative duties: telephone and email inquiries, maintaining electronic filing system, creating document templates, post and copy tasks.
• Assist with practice planning; review plans with input; player development.
• Assist with game duties: match-ups, pregame routine, scouting report, substitution pattern, and clipboard system.
• Assist with budgeting, including Concur.
• Serve as Scouting Coordinator: create scouting reports, prepare and present personnel film to players.
• Serve as Recruiting Coordinator: plan and schedule recruiting calendar, maintain an up-to-date prospect database.
• Serve as Strength and Conditioning Monitor: assist Strength and Conditioning Staff with player development.
• Serve as Equipment Coordinator: work with the equipment manager to order equipment, responsible for equipment and inventory records.
• Serve as Community Service Coordinator: collect requests and organize selected requests.
• Serve as Director of Work Study and Student Management Staff: recruit and manage all work study and student managers, create individual job descriptions.
• Serve as Camp Director: design, market, and implement all camp offerings.
• Serve as Academic Director: monitor student-athletes' academic progress, implement academic support programs.
• Serve as Compliance Director: responsible for compliance paperwork.
• Serve as Travel Director: plan all aspects of team travel, including detailed itineraries.
• Reports directly to the Head Basketball Coach.
• Maintain the confidentiality of designated information.
• Operate a university or personal vehicle safely while carrying out job responsibilities; driving record check required.
• Carry out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
• Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Head coaching experience.
• Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
• Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, staff, faculty, etc.
• Ability to work and inspire a diverse group of student-athletes.
• Ability to organize work responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently, work varied and long hours.
• Ability to travel extensively for recruitment activities and for team games.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• NCAA Division I or II assistant coaching experience.
