About the role
This Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will support the head coach and staff in all facets of day-to-day program operations, including practice, games, conditioning, scouting opponents, recruiting, and film work. The role requires enthusiasm for working with student-athletes, a strong basketball background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to following NAIA rules.
Responsibilities
- Recruit student-athletes according to Admission Office and NAIA procedures.
- Assist the head coach in scheduling and providing transportation.
- Prepare events and practices; attend all practices and games.
- Break down film of opponents and prepare scouting reports for the team and staff.
- Carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the Head Coach.
- Cooperate with staff to ensure student-athletes receive academic and personal support services.
- Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
- Ensure compliance with SMWC and NAIA rules and regulations.
- Update Coaches Recruiting Report.
- Process credit card statements and check requisitions in a timely manner.
- Maintain practice and game facilities.
- Develop gameday itineraries, secure lodging, and plan meals for team travel.
- Provide travel information for faculty.
- Directly supervise student-athletes and student staff.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Head Coach.
Requirements
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small college setting and balance student-athlete needs.
- Proven coaching experience in basketball.
- Ability to recruit and retain student-athletes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and OneDrive (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Hudl, Sportscode, Gamebreaker, or Synergy preferred.
- High school and college playing experience preferred.
- 2+ years of assistant coaching experience at NAIA or NCAA level preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID preferred.
