About the role
The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach & Head Coach for JV Men’s Basketball provides leadership in developing an effective basketball program. This position works closely with the Head Coach to support the varsity program and oversees the junior varsity team.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements workout plans and practices for the junior varsity team.
- Assists with recruiting student-athletes for both teams.
- Provides skills development opportunities for the program’s players.
- Represents the department at campus and community events.
- Aids in promoting College athletics and facilities throughout the community.
- Coordinates game day management, including setup and take down at home athletic contests.
- Works effectively with officials, the athletic trainer, and visiting team coaches.
- Trains and schedules student workers as needed.
- Serves as a role model for student athletes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters in Sports Management or related field preferred.
- One year as a high school, AAU or college basketball coach; comparable experience may be considered.
- Proven ability to recruit student athletes.
- Experience in the field of media relations or public information using traditional as well as digital media.
- Knowledgeable in compiling statistics and statistical reports; professional experience specific to sports information preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and technology skills.
- Effective both as a leader and as a collaborator.
- Record of teaching and modeling character, values, and responsibility.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
- Flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and travel as required.
- Possess or is willing to complete CPR and First Aid certification; Driver’s license and driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier.
