About the role

CMS Athletics is a comprehensive program at Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges, offering a wide range of sports including swimming and diving. The position is part-time and non-exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development and implementation of training and instruction for practices and competitions.
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including paperwork, team travel logistics, practice plans, and scholar-athlete development.
  • Recruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes to the highly selective colleges.
  • Comply with NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics, and SCIAC rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all required training and certifications.
  • Represent CMS Athletic Department and swimming and diving programs positively within the SCIAC and regionally/nationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Previous collegiate participation and coaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in recruiting academically focused scholar-athletes preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required for driving College-owned vehicles.
  • Appropriate certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, or willingness to complete certifications upon hire if working independently with student-athletes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related professional software.
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Evident understanding of the role of athletics in the liberal arts college environment.
  • Proven experience in recruiting student-athletes to highly selective institutions.
  • Professional skills in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills.
  • Follows all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of duties.
  • Keen attention to detail in completing work accurately.

Skills

  • Knowledge of equipment and its use in assessing and improving department systems and processes.
  • Understanding of the use of technology in professional settings.
  • Ability to manage heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.

Pay

$17.00-18.50 per hour.

Schedule

Hours vary, with flexibility to set work hours appropriate to the needs of the program. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or division.
