Responsibilities

  • Acts as the responsibility centers’ point of contact for the Corrective Action Program (CAP) issues and implementation.
  • Acts as the responsibility centers’ point of contact for the Performance Improvement Program issues and implementation.
  • Plans, directs, and manages Maintenance Department activities by establishing and communicating vision, conducting long range planning, communicating direction, implementing performance improvement, managing budget and department projects for the Maintenance Department.
  • Establishes Maintenance Area organizational structure and anticipates short- and long-term staffing requirements.
  • Provides oversight to training for Maintenance Department training by identifying training needs, supporting training assessment, ensuring Maintenance employees are fully qualified; ensuring superintendents are establishing and participating on Curriculum Committees.
  • Provides leadership for improving the self-assessment and corrective action functions within the Maintenance Department. In this capacity, leads self-assessment activities within Maintenance and ensures timely and effective Action Required (AR) and Condition Report (CR) resolution.
  • Acts as a member of the Plant Operations Review Committee (PORC), a review group whose function is to advise the plant manager on matters related to nuclear and environmental safety.
  • Maintain Operational Focus within the Maintenance Department; specifically, take action to ensure that maintenance is performed event-free; drive the station to excellence in performance; and monitor and evaluate work and employee performance to ensure compliance with the SSES operating license and to ensure that regulatory requirements are met.
  • Interacts directly and routinely with representatives of outside regulatory agencies performing inspection of licensee’s activities including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO).
  • Establishes and communicates station performance improvement standards and expectations that are consistent with best in industry and strategically aligned to station, business unit and corporate performance and business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Five years of responsible nuclear power plant experience or applicable industrial experience, a minimum of one year of which shall be nuclear power plant experience.
  • A maximum of two years of the remaining five years of power plant or industrial experience may be fulfilled by satisfactory completion of academic or related technical training on a one-for-one time basis.
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of Susquehanna training and certification programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage a fluctuating resource pool of people.
  • Ability to develop work strategies that yield a proven significant cost savings.
  • Knowledge of labor union / experience with labor contract implementation
