About the role

Assistant Machine Operators at Pratt Industries directly support all machine operations including setup, cleanup, and recommending improvements to meet customer demand. This is a full-time position on the second shift.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times and follow Good Manufacturing Processes.
  • Learn and comply with Pratt Industries quality procedures.
  • Assist the Machine Operator with maximizing equipment utilization, improving setup times, and reducing downtime.
  • Help identify and address mechanical concerns.
  • Maintain a clean work area by following good housekeeping procedures, including sanitization and removing trip hazards.
  • Learn and understand equipment capabilities and capacities to drive efficiencies by limiting waste and downtime without sacrificing quality.
  • Cross-train on other machines in the facility.
  • Assist the Machine Operator with completing necessary reports accurately and timely, including production data, machine operational status, safety data, and quality data.
  • Submit maintenance work order requests to supervision for needed repairs and be proactive in equipment maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the production schedule and make recommendations for optimizing cost, quality, and service goals.
  • Report any unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
  • Work overtime as necessary, sometimes on short notice.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in the packaging industry is a plus.
  • Able to read and follow instructions, including quality, safety, and job packets.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • May occasionally be required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
