Job Description
As a Machine Assistant, you will support machine operators in all aspects of the press operation, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements.
- Set up slotting, feed, and die-cut sections on the machine according to proper setup techniques.
- Aid the operator with other duties as needed.
- Maintain quality control by monitoring board quality (e.g., loose liner, warp, dimensions, caliper, etc.) and reporting any issues to the operator.
- Sort materials to maintain machine productivity.
- Adapt to different machines through cross-training.
- Be open to progressing to the operator position, regardless of shift.
- Complete necessary reports accurately and promptly.
- Submit maintenance work orders to supervisors for needed repairs.
- Proactively maintain equipment and follow company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and good housekeeping.
- Aid operators in adhering to the production schedule.
- Recommend adjustments to optimize the schedule and meet cost, quality, and service goals.
- Report any scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience in the corrugated industry preferred.
- 6 months’ experience as a Flexo or DieCut Helper.
- 6 months’ experience in the Press and Finishing Departments.
Skills
- Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Mathematical skills, including reading a tape measure with speed and accuracy, calculating percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
- Reasoning ability, including understanding and carrying out instructions, solving problems, and understanding high school-level math concepts.
- Technical skills, including knowledge of equipment design and capabilities, familiarity with product layouts and production specifications, and understanding of product quality specifications and standards.
