Job Description

As a Machine Assistant, you will support machine operators in all aspects of the press operation, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements.

  • Set up slotting, feed, and die-cut sections on the machine according to proper setup techniques.
  • Aid the operator with other duties as needed.
  • Maintain quality control by monitoring board quality (e.g., loose liner, warp, dimensions, caliper, etc.) and reporting any issues to the operator.
  • Sort materials to maintain machine productivity.
  • Adapt to different machines through cross-training.
  • Be open to progressing to the operator position, regardless of shift.
  • Complete necessary reports accurately and promptly.
  • Submit maintenance work orders to supervisors for needed repairs.
  • Proactively maintain equipment and follow company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and good housekeeping.
  • Aid operators in adhering to the production schedule.
  • Recommend adjustments to optimize the schedule and meet cost, quality, and service goals.
  • Report any scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience in the corrugated industry preferred.
  • 6 months’ experience as a Flexo or DieCut Helper.
  • 6 months’ experience in the Press and Finishing Departments.

Skills

  • Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Mathematical skills, including reading a tape measure with speed and accuracy, calculating percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
  • Reasoning ability, including understanding and carrying out instructions, solving problems, and understanding high school-level math concepts.
  • Technical skills, including knowledge of equipment design and capabilities, familiarity with product layouts and production specifications, and understanding of product quality specifications and standards.

  • Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, occasional exposure to high, precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
