Assistant Lab Technician - Construction Materials Testing

About the role

Olsson is seeking a driven and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Lab Technician. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the quality, safety, and longevity of materials used in construction projects by analyzing concrete, soil, asphalt, and other materials to assess their strength, composition, and performance. Your work will help clients comply with regulatory requirements and ensure the structural integrity and long-term success of their projects.

You will conduct routine laboratory testing, prepare specimens, and maintain high standards of quality control under the guidance of senior technical staff. The position offers opportunities to pursue technician certifications through industry organizations such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Occasional travel to job sites in various terrain and weather conditions may be required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine laboratory testing of construction materials, including concrete, soil, and asphalt.
• Meticulously prepare specimens for testing.
• Maintain high standards of quality control under the supervision of senior technical staff.
• Travel occasionally to job sites to perform testing in various terrain and weather conditions.
• Pursue industry certifications (e.g., ACI Grade I, Nuclear Gauge) as part of professional development.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree from a technical or four-year school preferred.
• Experience in construction observation, inspection, or surveying is a plus.
• ACI Grade I and Nuclear Gauge certifications preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving history.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
