About the role

The Department of Transportation is seeking an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager to guide roadway maintenance projects across the region. This role involves supporting important highway operations that keep communities safe and connected.

Responsibilities

  • Develop programs, estimates, and plans for roadway maintenance and seasonal operations
  • Oversee maintenance crews, assign tasks, monitor work, and support performance evaluations
  • Review resource needs, manage materials and equipment, and guide emergency response efforts
  • Conduct inspections, review work quality, and coordinate contract construction and maintenance activities
  • Meet with local officials and partner organizations to discuss priorities and address area needs

Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Salary

In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
