Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager

The Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager supports county highway maintenance operations by developing work plans, supervising crews, coordinating inspections, and overseeing emergency responses to ensure safe and reliable roadways across Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

• Develop programs and estimates for patching, surface treatment, snow removal, and other roadway activities
• Supervise general and specialized maintenance crews and evaluate performance across assigned counties
• Conduct inspections of highways and bridges and review resource requests for personnel and materials
• Manage operations during incidents and weather events within assigned areas
• Prepare, negotiate, and monitor maintenance agreements with local government partners
• Interview candidates, address performance matters, and determine training needs for subordinates

Schedule

• Full-time employment
• Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
• Dual shifts in effect from November through March
• Opportunity for part-time telework upon successful completion of the probationary period (requires securely configured high-speed internet and an approved location inside Pennsylvania; subject to change)

Pay

Starting annual salary: $69,086.00 (before taxes) for new employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Requirements

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
• Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements
• Must be able to perform essential job functions
