Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities

• Program Planning: Develop maintenance programs, estimates, and plans for roadway and bridge needs
• Crew Supervision: Guide general and specialized crews in daily maintenance and minor construction work
• Work Evaluation: Inspect projects, review practices, and coordinate contract oversight
• Resource Management: Manage requisitions, monitor permits, and handle materials and equipment requests
• Staff Leadership: Assign tasks, review performance, coach employees, and support training and development
• Community Coordination: Work with local representatives to discuss projects and establish priorities

Requirements

• Must pass a background investigation
• Must meet the PA residency requirement
• Must possess a valid PA non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
• Must be able to perform essential job functions

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles); or
• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training

Pay

In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Schedule

Full-time employment; Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch; Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
