Scissors & Scotch is a barbershop and bar. It’s upscale but not uptight. S&S caters to clients from all walks of life looking for an amazing haircut plus that “Cheers” experience where everyone knows their name. This is a growth leadership role. You’ll still be behind the chair doing what you love (about 32 hours a week cutting), but you’re also the person we lean on to run the shop when the General Manager isn’t there.
Requirements
- You’re a good person: We live by our Core Principles, starting with "Do The Right Thing." If you’re a jerk, don’t apply.
- You can actually cut hair: This is a barber/stylist role first. You’ll spend about 32 hours a week behind the chair, licensed and doing great work.
- You want to lead, not just be the boss: You’ll own the culture, keep standards high, and make decisions when the GM is out. The team should be glad you’re in charge.
- You LOVE meeting, talking to, and connecting with people: Your clients and team should love you. The more you make people feel special, the better the shop runs.
- You can work a computer better than your parents: Scheduling, inventory, POS, and team communication are part of the role.
- You want to work in an upscale environment: Professionalism is key—no pajama bottoms or sloppiness. We serve successful clients and expect the same from our team.
- You want to grow personally: This role is a launch pad for leadership, GM opportunities, and beyond. We aim to make you more skilled and marketable.
- You like winning: We set goals, celebrate wins, and work toward success together. No hiding—this is an active, engaged role.
Responsibilities
- Act as the leader in the shop when the GM isn’t present (evenings, weekends, and busy stretches).
- Cut hair as your primary role (about 32 hours a week behind the chair).
- Assist the GM with daily operations: scheduling, training, and team oversight.
- Maintain shop cleanliness, stock, and presentation, including product inventory.
- Drive culture by planning and running team activities that make this a great place to work.
- Serve as the liaison between the team and management: address concerns, solve problems, and escalate when needed.
- Ensure every client leaves happy through active leadership and quick problem-solving.
- Dedicate 2 to 5 hours a week to managerial/admin work on top of cutting hours.
