Assistant General Manager

About the role

This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive sales, coach teams, and uphold operational standards in a fast-paced retail environment. Responsibilities span financial review, customer service, team management, and in-store execution of DIY services.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze P&L statements to inform business decisions.
• Provide GAS3 selling expertise to DIY and DIFM customers.
• Meet or exceed personal and store sales goals and service objectives.
• Oversee DIY services such as battery installation, testing, and wiper installs.
• Uphold high customer service standards and promptly resolve complaints related to products and operations.
• Perform Manager on Duty duties including staff coaching, floor and phone management, task assignment, safety oversight, and opening/closing procedures.
• Lead the weekly scheduling process.

• Proficient in executing and training store operational processes, inventory systems, POS, and parts lookup systems.

Essential Job Skills

• Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish is a plus. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and upper management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred).
• Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percentages.
• Capable of reviewing and analyzing business reports, including P&L statements.
• Skilled at holding others accountable, inspecting work quality, and delivering inspiring feedback.
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Prior Experience

• 2–3 years managing a team of 10–20 in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment.
• Proven track record managing profitability with strong financial and business acumen.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred.

Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• ASE Certification preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

The role involves predominantly walking or standing, with frequent talking and hearing, and the use of hands and fingers to handle objects. The employee must be able to reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally is required. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Work is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to weather during tasks like battery and wiper installations. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, chemicals, electrical shock, explosives, and vibration may occur. Noise levels are typically moderate.

Pay

The hourly rate for this role ranges from $21.65 to $24.09, depending on factors such as location, retail experience, automotive knowledge, education, leadership background, and applicable shift differentials.
