About the role

The Marketing Legal Practice Group provides legal support to the Chase Consumer and Community Banking Marketing Legal Team, offering counsel across marketing channels including digital, social media, and print advertising. This role requires strong analytical skills and sophisticated judgment.

As an Assistant General Counsel / Vice President (VP) in the Marketing Legal team, you will focus on reviewing and providing guidance for marketing materials prepared by the Consumer and Community Banking areas. You will conduct critical analyses, provide alternative solutions when necessary, and coordinate with legal and non-legal staff to deliver sound and practical legal counsel in complex, fast-paced, and high-volume situations.

The Legal Department at JPMorgan Chase & Co. manages legal and other risks, advises on products and services, interprets laws and regulations, and supports the firm on various matters. Responsibilities

  • Develop subject matter expertise in assigned areas and provide strategic and practical legal advice.
  • Collaborate with functional partners to ensure awareness of issues as they arise and assist in resolving matters and driving initiatives.
  • Advise and collaborate with colleagues across the Legal and Compliance Departments.
  • Handle escalated matters, projects, and initiatives with firm-wide and cross-line-of-business coverage.
  • Monitor and advise business partners and legal colleagues on relevant legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Assist the Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) businesses—with an emphasis on Card Services, Consumer Bank, and Home Lending—on marketing products and advising on regulatory issues.
  • Review marketing claims and substantiation.
  • Participate in control, compliance, and risk initiatives from a legal marketing and communications standpoint.
  • Work with the business to implement changes responsive to new federal and state legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • JD admitted to practice and a member of the bar in good standing; compliance with all relevant licensing requirements, including jurisdiction-specific rules, prior to employment.
  • 5+ years of legal experience in a large consumer banking organization, law firm, or equivalent (e.g., government, law enforcement, or regulatory agency) with a demonstrated record of increasing responsibility.
  • Knowledge of applicable consumer finance and marketing laws, including the Card Act (Reg. Z), Truth in Lending (TILA), Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP), Reg. DD, and RESPA.
  • Understanding of banking products and services such as credit cards, rewards programs, checking and savings accounts, and the regulatory framework for large banking organizations.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to multitask in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to interpret, explain, and apply statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Superb oral and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach to working with legal and non-legal colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster and maintain strong client relationships while understanding and communicating broader impacts or risks.

All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with regulatory issues relevant to marketing in financial services.
  • Strong interest in marketing regulations and significant case law impacting financial services marketing practices.
  • Experience with digital, electronic, and mobile banking and transactions.
  • Non-English language skills (preferred but not required).
