About the role

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs, including facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS is recruiting two Space Analysts - I to function as Assistant Facility Coordinator/Building Managers who will:

  • Assist in facility operations, furniture relocation, relinquishment of space, pre and post construction site preparation activities, re-engineering initiatives and ensuring high scores on Customer Observing and Researching Experience (CORE) inspections as mandated by Executive Order 115;
  • Provide a consistent high level of service for customers interacting with City agencies;
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of sites for location/relocation by program and administrative areas;
  • Review space needs by conducting site visits for the purpose of surveying and preparing drawings to determine the optimum location of staff, furniture and equipment;
  • Assist in the actual location/relocation by coordinating several activities necessary for the move; and
  • Provide for the delivery of essential building support services.

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of satisfactory, full-time experience in the evaluation and layout of space in office buildings, garages and other structures used for commercial and industrial purposes. Such experience must have included projects requiring knowledge of construction needs and cost, installation of computer equipment and telephone communication systems, and building standards and leasing procedures; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience in the evaluation and layout of space in office buildings, garages and other structures used for commercial and industrial purposes. Such experience must have included projects requiring knowledge of construction needs and cost, installation of computer equipment and telephone communication systems, and building standards and leasing procedures.

College education obtained from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to four years of experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for one year. However, all candidates must have one year of experience described above.

To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described above.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in the use of work order systems and standard office software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Working knowledge of Adobe applications for document review, editing, and record management;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong knowledge of building operations, maintenance, and facilities management;
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing demands;
  • Customer-service oriented with a professional demeanor;
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
