The Assistant Fabrication Lead - 2nd Shift is responsible for leading and managing the operation, maintenance, and performance optimization within the Fabrication department. This role involves ensuring the efficient production of high-quality parts and projects while adhering to safety standards.

Team Leadership

  • Direct and oversee a team of CNC Machine Operators and Welder / Fabricator Technicians.
  • Employ leadership strategies to cultivate a culture of excellence and productivity.
  • Nurture Team's expertise, fostering a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Ensure completion of comprehensive training and documentation of training for all Team Members.
  • Orchestrate conflict resolution, resource allocation, scheduling, and strategic planning.
  • Lead team meetings, showcasing adept leadership and team-building skills.
  • Contribute to the performance management process by conducting informal evaluations, meticulously observing and documenting team member performance, and collaborating with P&D-HR as needed.
  • Cultivate and maintain both internal and external relationships with departments and suppliers, emphasizing quality enhancement and fostering a collaborative environment. This collaborative approach aims to advance both product quality and interpersonal rapport.

Production Management

  • Develop and implement production schedules, cross-training, and ensure optimal utilization of CNC, Loewer, and Brake machines.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet project deadlines.
  • Assist if a Team Member is unavailable to operate the machine during their shift or there is a need in Fabrication and no other Team Member is available. It is crucial for the Team Lead to step in and cover the operation.

Quality Assurance

  • Implement quality control measures to maintain high-quality standards in fabrication processes.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure each project is built in adherence to all Nomad QC requirements and documentation is complete (per LSW).

Machine Preventative Maintenance and Repair

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and oversee the preventative maintenance and repair of CNC, Loewer, Brake machines.
  • Schedule servicing and ensure equipment is in top working condition to prevent downtime.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure machines operate at optimal levels. This includes any newly acquired machinery that may be added at a later date and put under this positions management.

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas for process improvement, implement best practices, and optimize workflows to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to implement new techniques or technologies.

Inventory Management

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure adequate stock of materials for production.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate on procurement strategies.

Safety Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for the team, adhering to regulations, and promoting a culture of safety awareness.
  • Ensure Team Members are up to date on safety training requirements.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Fabrication Manager.

Basic Knowledge Desired

  • Understand the significance of the Nomad Core Values and displays a demonstrated willingness to apply them.
  • Be knowledgeable about CNC machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Be knowledgeable about raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Be knowledgeable about the Metric and Imperial Measurement Systems and how to calculate with them.
  • Able to operate CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands

  • Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and crawling.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Assistance required for anything heavier than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors.
  • Must have the physical stamina to work in awkward positions and stand for prolonged periods.

Working Environment

  • Partially environmentally controlled indoor area with temperatures fluctuating between 60°F and 100°F, typically maintained around 70°F.
  • Occasional outdoor work required.
  • Exposure to noise levels ranging from low to loud; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
  • Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals; adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) required.
  • Mandatory wearing of OSHA-approved safety eyewear and closed-toed shoes at all times on the production floor.
  • Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators or protective coveralls, may be necessary for specific tasks.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; additional education strongly desired.
  • 5+ years of previous welding and metal fabrication experience, interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics and determining appropriate welding process, preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience and knowledge of MIG, TIG, or push-pull welding applications.
  • 1+ years of experience at Nomad GCS preferred.
  • Excellent math skills and understanding of numerical data and how to take accurate measurements.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, or aptitude in Lean methodology.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to train, motivate and manage a team effectively.
