About the role
Suffolk is seeking an Assistant Estimator to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for coordinating project budgeting, preparing quantity surveys, obtaining subcontractor pricing, and providing administrative support to the Chief Estimator.
Responsibilities
- Unit Cost Pricing: Prepare detailed takeoffs of materials, labor estimates, and unit prices.
- Subcontractor Solicitation & Selection: Prepare subcontractor bid packages, scope sheets, and answer questions.
- Subcontractor Relationships & Feedback: Update subcontractor lists, prepare RFIs, and attend turn-over meetings.
- We should attempt to do a complete Control Estimate and attend site visits.
- Conceptual Estimating: Prepare takeoff quantities and assist with creating bid packages.
- Hard Bid and Design Build Estimating: Create "Plug" numbers, review scopes, and attend training classes.
- Bid Day Activities: Develop scope of work/pricing spreadsheets, review subcontractor information, and attend post-bid meetings.
- Post Bid Activities: Attend review meetings, discuss strategy, and report on status.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in Estimating or equivalent Quantity Surveys, Take-off skills.
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Word processing programs.
- Ability to take off material quantities from construction documents and organize information.
- Understanding of construction documents, CSI sections, and reading blueprints.
