Assistant Director of Peer Education

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and evaluate the Peer Catalyst Program, a College Reading and Learning Association-certified Peer Educator program.
  • Collaborate with faculty regarding Peer Catalyst placement and working with an embedded peer educator.
  • Support and collaborate with other peer academic support programs.
  • Aid faculty and staff with academic intervention and support strategies.
  • Interact with other professional support services on campus and in the community where deemed appropriate.
  • Identify support opportunities and recommend appropriate responses.
  • Promote the Peer Catalyst Program and Learning Commons through classroom presentations, open houses, faculty orientations, and other opportunities.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings pertinent to the responsibilities of this position.

Education Requirements

  • Master's degree, required

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of experience in academic support programs, preferably at a university
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and faculty members. This includes active listening, public speaking, and facilitating group discussions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathy are essential for building rapport and fostering a supportive environment within the student staff of the Learning Commons
  • Experience in designing and implementing academic support programs and initiatives that meet the diverse needs of students. This includes creating workshops, tutorials, and study groups, as well as collaborating with faculty and staff to develop comprehensive student success strategies
  • Familiarity with active learning and group learning techniques, particularly those associated with seminar- and flipped-classroom pedagogies
  • Knowledge of critical thinking, written- and verbal-communication skills, growth mindset, and/or self-efficacy theoretical frameworks
  • Classroom teaching experience is a plus
  • Ability to do basic statistical analysis
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds
