The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring quality patient care via development, implementation, and evaluation of individual patient care plans in the home setting. This role serves as the liaison between the Agency, DON/Clinical Manager, Operations Manager, field staff, and patient families.
The Assistant Director of Nursing reports directly to the Operations Manager and DON/Clinical Manager, supporting and creating positive environments through a personal commitment to the Company’s vision and values while demonstrating and maintaining strong leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of care implementation within the nursing skilled team and the Scheduling Department with attention to quality patient care and patient family satisfaction.
- Coordinate care authorization with Authorization Specialists and Case Managers, including new admissions and re-certifications.
- Ensure proper implementation, evaluation, and oversight of all assigned clients and their Plan of Care with field staff.
- Work with the management team to ensure that state regulations are upheld within the designated field office.
- Educate field staff on relevant chapters in the EEOICP Manual.
- Perform quarterly Quality Assurance Visits and assist Authorizations and Case Managers with an ongoing complete DOL Benefits Analysis for assigned clients.
- Build rapport with patient families and skilled nursing staff in implementing and managing care being rendered.
- Work alongside the Staffing Coordinator to schedule workload for maximum efficiency, remaining detail-oriented to deadlines and cost efficiency.
- Plan and conduct orientations and continuing education for staff engaged in patient care as needed.
- Maintain communication, including a weekly update with Operations and DON/Clinical Manager, Case Managers, RN Authorization Specialists, non-licensed staff, support staff, and ancillary services.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance staff in implementing staff development as required by maintaining documentation compliance.
- Provide clinical guidance and coaching for all clinical field staff, clients, and families.
- Orchestrate, with oversight from Operations and DON/Clinical Manager, Case Management meetings at least monthly and meetings with other field staff as needed.
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with members of management and care teams.
- Monitor QuickBase for accuracy, updated and timely documentation/information by case managers; ensure 60-day assessments are completed by deadline and reviewed for proper documentation for all assigned clients.
- Participate in home visits in the service area per Policies and Procedures and as needed to resolve field issues.
- Conduct initial assessments and assist with the on-boarding process of new clients under the direction of Operations, DON/Clinical Manager, and On-boarding Coordinator.
- Demonstrate effective delegation of tasks, working with and through others as directed by Operations and Clinical Manager.
- Monitor in-home staff education requirements (including HHA tests) to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Support and take initiative on necessary state and federal program regulations by developing, implementing, and evaluating compliance processes.
- Maintain a continuing knowledge of competencies related to the Nursing profession by participating in formal education programs, conferences, workshops, and professional organizations.
- Participate in management and leadership team meetings and attend to corresponding responsibilities per company development and growth.
- Treat current and prospective company clients and families with absolute customer service, compassion, close communication, friendly service, and professionalism.
- Be available and present during company office hours (unless pre-arranged with DON/Clinical Manager or Operations) to enable accessibility of service for potential and current patients, families, staff, and colleagues.
- Provide and ensure effective coverage with communication to all parties involved related to any changes in prior approved schedules.
- Participate in performance review and goal setting for growth and company development in the assigned territory.
- Acquire and provide detailed information regarding an assigned client to establish the foundation for the treatment Plan of Care.
- Fill any role as needed in the event of an emergent situation for any given client if the shift is unable to be filled.
- Maintain open communication with clients and staff, providing necessary information as it relates to overall client care, DOL benefits, Authorization team, Chart Review, and billing departments.
- Participate in public relations and community activities that promote the role as an effective provider of in-home care in the DOL OWCP’s programs.
- Ensure the structure and chain of command is observed by all nursing staff (per Organizational Chart).
Requirements
- Current RN licensure in state(s) deemed necessary by the Company.
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible clinical experience.
- Prior management or leadership experience.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize, and function in a team environment.
- Professional, courteous, compassionate, and customer-oriented demeanor.
- Discrete, trustworthy, and possess a high level of integrity.
- Excellent computer and internet skills.
- Ability to do bending and lifting required for effective patient-related care.
