Assistant Director of Nursing

About the Role

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in leading clinical operations and ensuring exceptional resident care. This role provides hands-on leadership, staff support, and clinical oversight to maintain quality, regulatory compliance, and a positive team environment.

Responsibilities

• Support daily clinical operations alongside the DON
• Supervise, coach, and mentor nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management
• Ensure high-quality resident care and accurate care planning
• Conduct clinical rounds and respond appropriately to changes in resident condition
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations
• Support QAPI initiatives and survey readiness
• Promote effective communication among staff, residents, and families
• Assist the DON with maintaining clinical standards and addressing areas for improvement

Requirements

• Active RN license in good standing
• At least 2–3 years of long-term care experience
• At least 1 year of nursing supervisory or leadership experience
• Infection Prevention (IP) certification required
• Strong knowledge of CMS and state regulatory standards
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• EMR proficiency
• Current CPR/BLS certification
