Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) (LPN or RN)

About the role

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a key management role assisting in the leadership and delivery of clinical services. Your primary goal will be ensuring residents receive the best possible quality care while demonstrating leadership abilities and nursing expertise. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team recognized for achievements and contributions, supporting the mission to provide superior clinical care, rehabilitation, wellness, and supportive services.

Responsibilities

• Maintains nursing service obligations, goals, and standards consistent with licensure requirements and the Nurse Practice Act.
• Oversees, directs, and coordinates nursing staff to provide proper resident care aligned with standard nursing practices.
• Participates in screening prospective residents and ongoing assessment of resident needs.
• Ensures staff adherence to infection control procedures, quality assurance programs, and OSHA procedures.
• Functions as the liaison between the facility and outside caregivers.
• Conducts employee conferences, counseling, and evaluations; participates in hiring and orienting new nursing staff.
• Assists in ongoing in-service education of nursing staff.
• Adheres to the nursing service budget.
• Assumes responsibility for decisions regarding all aspects of nursing care, consulting with the Director of Assisted Living and other resources as needed.
• Ensures provision of appropriate medications, treatments, and nursing services according to care plans and physician’s instructions.
• Monitors and controls inventories of drugs and supplies.
• Notifies the Director of Assisted Living, physician, and family or responsible party of significant changes in a resident’s condition.
• Formulates care plans based on resident assessments and completes assignments based on resident needs.
• Attends department head meetings, staff meetings, and serves on committees as necessary.

Requirements

• LPN or RN license in the State of practice.
• Previous skilled nursing facility experience with a solid understanding of clinical operations and regulatory compliance.
• Nursing management experience and/or staff development experience.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strong employee relationships.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and verbal skills.
