About the Role
Assists the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in the supervision of nursing care provided by nursing staff and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible. The Clinical Educator is responsible for a variety of training and development duties within the hospital, with a focus on ensuring that nurses have the skills and training to succeed in their individual units.
Responsibilities
- Assists the CNO in planning, developing, and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel.
- Assists with the development and implementation of nursing services, objectives, policies, and procedures in accordance with Federal and state regulations.
- Coordinates with supervisors to identify areas of training needed and formulates plans for implementation.
- Shares responsibility for selecting Nursing Department staff, completing employee evaluations, and managing employee relations.
- Assists with maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for all patients.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, health professional affiliates, patient facilities, and nursing staff.
- Consults and directs supervisors regarding staffing matters, problem-solving, training, supplies, and equipment requisites.
- Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepares reports, maintains records, compiles statistics, etc., as directed by the CNO.
- Fosters good morale among staff through effective leadership, consultation, and communication.
- Assists with investigations of complaints and helps develop systems to monitor and resolve underlying concerns.
- Works with the CNO to identify and resolve departmental deficiencies with implemented correction plans.
- Supervises and coordinates the work of licensed and unlicensed personnel in a unit.
- Manages quality and effectiveness of care given by staff.
- Oversees the development of education, training, and research initiatives for nursing personnel and participates in the in-service training of nursing staff.
- Participates in establishing the standards of patient care, policies, and objectives of the unit; communicates these to unit staff, patients, families, and the community.
- In the absence of the CNO, performs the duties of the Director, including taking call.
- Responsible for carrying out psychiatrists'/physicians' orders and for the accurate reporting and recording of patients' symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Participates in activities to enhance professional growth and development.
- Upholds the organization’s ethics and customer service standards.
- Audits groups to ensure all programming is maintained.
- Mentors all new nursing (LPN & RN) staff, ensuring education needs are met, including weekly meetings throughout orientation.
- Assists with ensuring all regulatory policies and procedures are maintained.

Requirements
- Current Nevada RN License required.
- BSN degree preferred.
- All direct patient care staff will be trained in BLS (CPR), which must be renewed every 2 years.
- All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, will be trained in Therapeutic Options as part of their orientation.
- All direct patient care staff will be retrained in Therapeutic Options every year.
