About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining the hotel's maintenance department and ensuring the property's appearance and functionality. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the exterior of the building, parking lot, and common areas
  • Maintaining all equipment in guest rooms
  • Conducting monthly safety inspections and training staff on safety and emergency procedures
  • Working with vendors on special projects and capital expenditures

Responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Reviewing and negotiating contractual agreements with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Requisitioning supplies and materials for construction projects
  • Opening properties and communicating with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals
  • Preparing and submitting budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports
  • Developing and implementing quality control programs
  • Inspecting and reviewing projects to ensure compliance with building and safety codes and regulations
  • Maintaining communications with corporate staff and coaching employees to meet Hyatt service standards

Requirements

Experience and qualifications include:

  • At least 6 years of progressive hotel or building management experience, preferably with Hyatt
  • Service-oriented style with professional presentation skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Engineering or Facility Management degree preferred
  • High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, and ability to provide exceptional customer service and improve the bottom line
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
