Assistant Director of Compliance

About the role
The Assistant Director of Compliance will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and assist in overseeing various aspects of the ECU Athletics compliance department. This position ensures all 18 varsity sports comply with NCAA, AAC, and ECU regulations, with a primary focus on monitoring recruiting activities. The role includes direct oversight of processes related to Bylaws 12 (Amateurism), 13 (Recruiting), and 17 (Playing & Practice Seasons), and serves as a liaison to departmental staff. Nights, weekends, holidays, and travel may be required.
Responsibilities
- Recruiting Functions (20%)
- Oversee recruiting monitoring systems and processes.
- Manage official/unofficial visit review and approval.
- Coordinate monitoring of all recruiting reconciliation documents.
- Assist with Individual Associated with a Prospect (IAWP) review and monitoring.
- Assist with camp/clinic review and approval.
- Oversee recruiting/scouting service approval.
- Oversee complimentary tickets.
- Playing & Practice Season Functions (20%)
- Monitor and approve team schedules.
- Review and approve time management plans and declaration of playing season.
- Review and approve countable athletically related activities (CARA) and required athletically related activities (RARA).
- Monitor student-athlete outside competition activities.
- Rules Education & Resource (20%)
- Provide research and interpretation of NCAA, AAC, and ECU rules.
- Prepare and present rules education to coaches, staff, student-athletes, and other groups.
- Assist in required recruiting education for coaching staff to certify for off-campus recruiting.
- Formulate and update policies/forms when legislation changes.
- Assist with new staff compliance orientation programming.
- Serve on the NIL Taskforce.
- Other Department Functions (20%)
- Oversee student-athlete non-NIL promotional activities review and approval.
- Oversee student-athlete employment review.
- Research and prepare NCAA and conference waivers at the direction of the Senior Associate AD for Compliance.
- Investigate and submit violations at the direction of the Senior Associate AD for Compliance.
- Oversee autograph and donation requests from a compliance perspective.
- Communication (20%)
- Build quality relationships and work collaboratively with all 18 sport programs and other athletic department staff, including Pirate Club, Marketing, Operations, Academics, Life Skills, Leadership Team, and Human Resources.
- Work collaboratively with the Ticket Office to monitor prospect, student-athlete, and coaches complimentary tickets.
- Serve as a liaison to the Business Office regarding recruiting reconciliation matters.
- Serve as the department’s liaison for compliance software systems.
- Serve as a liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Technology proficiency including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and database systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an Athletic Department Compliance Office.
- Experience using NCAA apps and other compliance systems.
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple groups/populations.
- Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and integrity.
- Demonstrated experience managing and overseeing confidential information.
