Responsibilities

  • Devise effective territory management and promote John Carroll University through:
    • Travel to high schools, college fairs, and regional events.
    • Targeted outreach and recurring follow-up to promote the university.
    • Daily correspondence, lead/prospect/applicant generation and cultivation, and frequent communication with prospects, applicants, and admitted students to encourage campus visits, applications, and enrollment deposits.
    • Event planning and data analysis.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), College Now Greater Cleveland, Say Yes Cleveland, Cleveland Community Based Organizations, and more.
  • Perform all territory management for CMSD and select schools in Cuyahoga County.
  • Host stakeholder events around Greater Cleveland featuring campus partners, young alumni, and current students.
  • Attend networking and professional development opportunities to increase brand awareness in Greater Cleveland (e.g., OACAC Conference, Articulations).
  • Develop strategies to enhance community relations and support college access organizations in partnership with campus departments and/or external community-based organizations.
  • Organize and administer a travel grant program for prospective students to remove transportation barriers for campus visits.
  • Assess candidates and make recommendations for admission.
  • Conduct group presentations and individual meetings with prospective students and families visiting campus.
  • Manage merit scholarship review and financial aid awarding for students from a recruitment territory, including:
    • Act as the main point of contact for the Say Yes Cleveland and Howley Scholarship processes.
    • Communicate revisions of applicant awards due to revised FAFSA, completed verification, or additional aid.
    • Provide financial aid counseling via phone, personal meetings, and orientation sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field of study.
  • One or more years of experience working in college admissions or student services.
  • Ability to multi-task, plan, and execute a recruitment territory plan.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an understanding of the needs of prospective students.
  • Strong organizational skills and the aptitude and willingness to perform modest clerical tasks.
  • Belief in the value of a liberal arts education, familiarity with and ability to articulate the value and mission of Jesuit, Catholic education.
  • Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic communication tools, with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to organize and find trends in data.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to regions out-of-state during key recruitment periods.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including weekends and evenings during peak times.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Higher Education or MBA.
  • Three or more years of experience working in college admissions or student services.
  • Experience providing superior customer service to a wide variety of constituents, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Past experience in relationship management and relationship sales best practices.
  • Ability to build trust with prospective students and their families to assist in overcoming objections.
  • Spanish language skills.
  • Working knowledge of student information systems, experience with Slate and Banner.
  • Enthusiasm for helping students and families navigate the college search process.
  • High energy level.
  • Strong attention to detail and responsiveness.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
