About the role

The Assistant Director of Admission is involved in all aspects of the Connecticut College admission process: recruitment travel and outreach, connecting and engaging with prospective students and their families, representing the college to external audiences, interviewing, application review, and selection of candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the College and provide information and counseling to prospective students, families, counselors and others through interviews, group presentations, and phone and email communications
  • Manage a defined recruitment territory; plan and conduct travel to visit high schools, attend college fairs and conferences, and connect with prospective students
  • Review applications individually and in committee settings, recommend candidates for admission, and serve on admission selection committees
  • Maintain and increase the selectivity, quality and diversity of the applicant pool and matriculants through a variety of recruitment and yield activities
  • Manage a portfolio of specific admission programs and projects assigned by the Director and/or Dean
  • Aid in the planning and implementation of student recruitment strategies and contribute to the development of new and creative admission programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners including current students, faculty, administrators, alumni and the public to support recruitment and yield activities
  • Prepare statistical and area reports including appropriate recommendations or conclusions
  • Interpret educational policy and institutional mission of the College to perpetuate its intellectual quality

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in liberal arts
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences and connect with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to make clear and concise presentations
  • Excellent attention to detail, and strong computer skills
  • Ability to build and sustain key relationships with staff, students and off campus contacts
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines
  • A growth mindset and willingness to continually develop knowledge, skills, and competencies
  • Extensive travel required (7-10 weeks per year)
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Qualifications
