About the role

The Assistant Director of Programming and Training in the Women’s Center at Duke University plays a critical role in fostering gender equity, intersectional feminism/womanism, leadership development, and student engagement across the campus community. Reporting directly to the Director of the Women’s Center, this position contributes to a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive campus climate.

Responsibilities

  • Educational Programming & Training (35%)
    • Develop, implement, and assess co-curricular educational programs focused on gender equity, intersectionality, leadership development, and social justice education.
    • Plan and facilitate workshops, discussion forums, speaker events, conferences, leadership programs, and campus-wide awareness initiatives.
    • Serve as a campus resource on issues related to gender identity, intersectionality, and social justice education.
  • Student Advising, Outreach & Partnerships (30%)
    • Advise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through leadership development, organizational support, and program planning.
    • Coordinate and oversee the Women’s Center Internship Program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation.
    • Provide support, advocacy, referrals, and appropriate intervention for students navigating personal, academic, or identity-related concerns.
    • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with campus partners, student organizations, alumni, and community agencies.
  • Supervision & Administration (15%)
    • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff supporting programming, outreach, and leadership initiatives.
    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment that promotes learning, leadership growth, and professional development.
    • Contribute to strategic planning, goal setting, and annual program development for the Women’s Center.
    • Manage program budgets and administrative processes.
  • Assessment & Professional Development (15%)
    • Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and community impact.
    • Prepare annual reports and assessment summaries highlighting outcomes and strategic recommendations.
  • Other Duties (5%)
    • Perform related duties as assigned to support departmental, divisional, and university goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in college/university administration, personnel management, or a related field supporting programming, advising, or administrative functions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, Social Work, Public Health, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working with undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students in a campus environment.
  • Background in student engagement, educational programming, or student support services.

Skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience using office productivity tools, social media platforms, Box, and web-based tools.
  • Experience planning or supporting major conferences or large-scale events.

Benefits

Duke University offers an annual base salary range for this position as USD $47,940.00 to USD $75,990.00. The university considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
