Assistant Director for Athletics Marketing
The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks an Assistant Director of Athletics Marketing. This full-time, at-will, FLSA-exempt position includes full University benefits. The department manages 22 varsity sports programs and operates under a “Win. Graduate. Do It Right.” philosophy.
About the Role
The Assistant Director of Athletics Marketing contributes to and enhances the marketing department’s core areas: game production, revenue generation, fan engagement, and advertising to support the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and its sports programs.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement complex marketing and advertising plans.
- Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
- Produce high-quality work, including advertising copy, social media content, game production elements, script writing, and video concepts.
- Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
- Use basic office support software (word processing, spreadsheets, and email) proficiently.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, building trusting relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, advertising, sport management, sports administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of one year of full-time professional experience, internship, or post-bachelor’s work in collegiate or professional sports marketing.
- Valid U.S. driving license and ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Working knowledge of marketing and advertising plan design and implementation.
- Proficiency in basic office support software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired
- Supervise and manage part-time staff or interns to achieve goals.
- Produce and direct run-of-show (game production) for athletic events.
- Experience with Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom) and video editing software (Premiere Pro or similar).
- Game scripting and event production experience.
- Email marketing, website/app design, and maintenance experience.
- Proven ability to develop ideas from concept to fulfillment.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate marketing processes and issues.
- Critical thinking and decisiveness during high-pressure situations.

Pay
Starting salary range: $47,380 – $53,200.
