About the role

The successful candidate will serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports and assist with the supervision of student assistants. They will also manage, create, and strategize creative digital content for the department’s social media channels, write features and press releases, record keep and track statistics, participate in public address, radio, and/or video work, assist with media requests for coaches and student-athletes, and ensure compliance with NCAA, GLVC, University of Missouri, and Missouri S&T policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports
  • Serve as a secondary contact for other intercollegiate athletic teams
  • Manage, create, and strategize creative digital content for the department’s social media channels
  • Write features and press releases
  • Record keeping and tracking statistics
  • Participate in public address, radio, and/or video work
  • Aid in responding to media requests for coaches and student-athletes
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
  • One (1) year experience in intercollegiate media relations or communications preferred
  • Served as a primary communications contact for a sport at a previous school preferred

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or journalism preferred

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms
  • Writing and video editing skills
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $20.00-$21.50 hourly.
