Assistant Director, Athletic Communications

About the role

Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK) seeks an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications to join the Intercollegiate Athletics department. Located in historic Kingsville, Texas, TAMUK is a member of the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and offers a wide range of academic programs.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Director of Athletic Communications and the athletics' department with day-to-day operations
• Trains and supervises graduate students, student workers and game-day staff
• Attends weekly meetings with staff and administration
• Consistent compliance with NCAA DII, LSC, TAMUK, and TAMUS policies, rules, and regulations
• Special Projects and Reporting:
  • Aids in publicity efforts for all sponsored sports, including writing press releases and feature stories
  • Produces and edits game programs, game notes and media guides
  • Helps maintain historical records
  • Distributes athletic information to all media outlets
  • Affords assistance in relations with local, regional and national media
  • Maintains the official website
  • Affords assistance in game day operations, including media relations, game management and statistical services
• Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Create or assist in the creation of promotional items for events and/or games that the athletics department promotes
  • Inform and/or release information to local, regional and national media regarding athletic news and/or updates
  • Collaborate with campus departments as needed in the promotion and execution of Athletic Events

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in sports journalism, sports administration, public relations, or related field
• Experience: Three (3) years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat
• Ability to move up to 20 lbs with assistance
• Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance
• Ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 10 lbs. of instructional materials
