About the role

The Assistant Director plays a critical role in the fast-paced, high volume BU Law Financial Aid Office which supports a population of 1200 law students. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Assistant Director awards financial aid, counsels prospective and current students as well as alumni, and has principal responsibility for the students in the LLM and other graduate programs in the School of Law. The Assistant Director oversees Federal Work-Study, the BU Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program, study abroad, visiting students, and other special enrollment programs. The Assistant Director plans the schedule of financial literacy events and present workshops on loan repayment and debt management topics for prospective and current students. Additionally, the Assistant Director acts as the primary back-up and supports the Senior Director.

Responsibilities

  • Awards financial aid to students
  • Counsels prospective and current students and alumni
  • Oversees Federal Work-Study, BU Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program, study abroad, visiting students, and other special enrollment programs
  • Plans and presents financial literacy events and workshops on loan repayment and debt management topics
  • Acts as the primary back-up and supports the Senior Director

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience required
  • Dedication to providing excellent customer service
  • Strong analytical skills, effective problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Self-directed, demonstrates initiative, and takes accountability for their development within Law Financial Aid including staying current on all federal policies

Qualifications

  • High level of professionalism and the independent exercise of good judgment
  • Analyzes and interprets complex regulations and policies and financial information to determine the correct and appropriate solution for each student

Skills

  • Ability to work with a variety of technologies
  • Enjoy and be capable of extreme attention to detail
  • Proven track record in multi-tasking in an extremely busy work environment
