About the Role
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid ensures the timely delivery of financial aid in accordance with Simpson University policy and regulatory requirements. This position oversees packaging and awarding student financial aid, reconciliation of Cal Grant and federal grants, and management of endowed and non-endowed scholarships. It includes supervisory responsibilities for Financial Aid Technician positions and serves as the certifying financial aid official for the university.
Responsibilities
- Oversee awarding of student financial aid and manage financial aid programs for federal and state aid.
- Facilitate and coordinate the selection of students for endowed scholarships based on donor criteria.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with DOE and CSAC, including reconciling federal loan and grant programs and Cal Grant monthly and at year-end.
- Manage third-party billing by tracking benefits on student award letters and processing invoices.
- Perform federally mandated refund calculations for financial aid funds.
- Calculate satisfactory academic progress and communicate outcomes to students regarding financial aid eligibility.
- Assist the Director of Financial Aid with reporting and maintain current knowledge of federal and state financial aid changes to recommend policy updates.
- Communicate with students regarding complex financial aid situations and award revisions.
- Support enrollment and retention efforts through financial aid processing, reporting, and customer service.
- Assist with developing enhanced communication strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of three years’ experience managing student financial aid programs and delivery.
- Thorough knowledge of financial aid and accounting regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., CSAC, IRS, DOE).
- Highly proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) and relational databases.
- Strong administrative abilities, including managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Professional integrity and demeanor.

Physical Requirements
This role operates indoors in a controlled environment.
- Frequent sitting for long periods using a computer.
- Occasional lifting/carrying under 10 lbs.
- Use of computer, scanner, copier, mouse, keyboard, and office equipment (e.g., stapler, 3-hole punch).
Pay
$70,304 per year.
